Scent that work: The new krill scent put out by several makers worked well during the spring salmon season. It should increase steelhead catches as well, since they feed primarily on krill in the ocean. The problem is that the Pacific Management Council has banned commercial krill fishing, and the real thing may not be around for long. I'm sure going to try it on Fall Chinook and Coho.

Scent and jigs: Usually applying scent to your jig will ruin the action of the jig. Try putting some scent on the leader at least 6" above the jig.

Spinning reel line: Are you tired of your mono getting all kinky on your spinning reel? It becomes a real pain putting new line on 3- 4 times a year if you use it very much. Try using a braided line and see how much easier it is to cast. I've used Spiderwire Fusion for several years and will never go back to the mono mess. Moss green color goes well with most water conditions, and in really clear conditions I use a longer leader. The fluorocarbon leaders have been a major improvement. You can now go with a heavier pound test and land some of those lunkers that often snapped the line. Recently fishing the Situk River in Alaska I had to go with 20 pound test leader because of the size and acrobatics of the fish, coupled with the log jams and overhanging brush that make it such a productive river. If I used a regular 20 pound test leader, I'd get few strikes. But the fluorocarbon gave me the best of both worlds. It's spendy- but why scrimp when we've already spent a bundle on equipment and transportation?
