Home - Oregon Anglers

Clubs & Activities

Oregon Anglers welcomes the newest member of our team. The Oregon Coast Sportfishing Association voted to join at their meeting  on Monday March 20, 2006. They bring the strength of the coastal charter boat fleet which takes thousands of sport fishermen and women out to fish the salt. Without this fleet, many anglers from all over would never be able to experience the incredible resource we have off our state's shore.

TIP OF THE MONTH

For those of you heading out to catch the mighty Steelhead. Try using a 3" hootchie (or small squid if you prefer). You can use them back-trolling as with plugs or under a bobber . You can put scent on them or add a piece of bait. We had good success back-trolling them last year on the Wilson with a dab of Sand Shrimp.

 2006 TOURNAMENTS & EVENTS

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

The date for our tournaments have been set. It costs $5 to enter each tournament and only club members may be in the boats participating in the tournament.

I will add more info to each item as the date approaches concerning weigh-in times and locations.

PIZZA FEED

This will be held again at JC’s Pizzeria on North River Road on Feb 14th at 6:30 pm. This is a family affair with all invited. There will be a $2 charge per person to help defray the cost of the raffle items given out. You need to sign up at the next meeting, or give Lenny a call at 503-390-9796

OLALLA BIG FISH DERBY

The tournament is scheduled for Sat, April 22nd at Olalla Lake near Toledo. Usually someone picks up a nice steelhead. You can only use electric motors on this lake.

 OREGON CITY SHAD TOURNEY

Another really fun event to be held on Sat June 3rd. At Oregon City. Join in on the fun and get some good Crab bait. Shad fishing can be tremendous, as long as you are in the right spot. We have caught as many as 50 fish in ½ an hour. They run 2 to 4 pounds and fight like Steelhead.

 ASTORIA STURGEON TOURNAMENT & POTLUCK

This outing is really turning out to be a big event. A lot of us stay at the KOA campground across from Fort Stevens State Park.

We have a BIG Potluck on Friday night with all kinds of good food. After the first of the year, I will make reservations for the cabins and some RV spots.

JOHN DAY BIG FISH TOURNEY

This is scheduled to be a 3 day camp out and fishing trip, this trip has been rescheduled for sometime in July) located on the John Day up 6 miles from the off ramp at I-84. There will be a big fish award along with an award for Walleye, Catfish, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and Perch. Each category will require a $5 entry. Sounds like a really fun trip.

 SUMMER PICNIC

The picnic will be held on Sunday, July 23rd. It is a really fun and relaxing time with terrific battles being fought in the golf ball throwing tourney. A lot of fun and a lot of good food. Lots of room for kids to play. If you haven’t been to this event, you are missing out on a lot of fun and excellent Steaks provided by the Club.

POSSIBILITIES

We will try to set up a Crab trip for club members.

Information for all these events will be discussed at the meetings. Weigh-in

times and locations will be decided then.

We would still like to do a Pikeminnow outing and just need to have dates and locations set up.

Also, a Walleye outing would be popular.

If you would like to be the official Leader for any of these events, let us know at the meeting.

 NON CLUB EVENTS

SILETZ SALMON DERBY

OCTOBER 6th and 7th.

Once again I will be heading this tourney to catch the giant Chinook. The past two years, we have had over 30 entries, which makes for some big prize $$$ to be handed out.

YAQUINA SALMON DERBY

Ray Miller will try again this year to have this tourney and will be praying that we don’t have the terrible weather that occurred this year and forced the tourney to move to the Nestucca.

The dates will be decided as we approach the Fall.

North Santiam River Guides

meetings: fourth Wednesday of the month

Neufelts Restaurant in Aumsville @ 6:00 PM

(No host supper)

This group dedicates itself to teaching drift boat and other "float boat"

owners how to safely run their boats on both easy runs and upper white water

runs on the North Santiam River. Their group runs have taught many new

boaters, no doubt saving lives. Chief Guide Bill Sanderson reports regularly on changes and obstacles to the river.
